What dose should I choose?

ellaOne 30mg is a single dose tablet, which means you are only required to take one tablet per treatment course.

It is always important to check that any medication you are taking is suitable for you. ellaOne (ulipristal acetate) is not suitable for women who are:

Pregnant
Allergic to any of its ingredients
Suffer from Asthma

When using the ellaOne morning after pill, if you are currently on the combined oral contraceptive pill, you would need to stop your daily contraceptive pill and restart it 5 days after taking ellaOne. During this period you must use alternative forms of contraception (ie barried methods – condoms). Additionally, ellaOne can only be used once within the same menstrual cycle.

How should I take ellaOne?

EllaOne 30mg tablets should be taken orally as a single dose per treatment course. It should be taken as soon as possible following unprotected sexual intercourse, and can be taken with or without food.

If your next period following treatment with the ellaOne morning after pill is more than 5-7 days late, you are required to take a pregnancy test and consult a medical professional as there is a chance you may be pregnant. With any form of emergency contraception, the Smart Chemist team recommend using barrier methods (i.e. condoms) until you start long term regular contraception, and for an additional 5-7 days from the commencement of regular contraception.

Emergency contraception does not protect you from the risks of contracting sexually transmitted infections.

EllaOne contains the active ingredient ulipristal acetate, which works by halting the female sex hormone progesterone. By doing so the ellaOne morning after pill is able to protect against unwanted pregnancy by preventing the release of an egg from the ovaries, this is done by delaying or stopping the process of ovulation.
