Duac gel is a prescription only medication used in the treatment of mild to moderate acne. It contains two main active ingredients; the antibiotic clindamycin, and benzoyl peroxide a keratolytic (peeling) agent with antibacterial properties. When used in this combination, Duac works by reducing acne causing bacteria as well as reducing the formation of blackheads and whiteheads on the outer most layer of the skin.
Gently wash the affected area with a mild cleanser and make sure the skin is completely dry prior to application. Apply a small amount of gel in the evening to the affected area(s) only, and rub in. If the gel does not easily absorb into the skin then you are using too much. You should wash your hands after each application with a gentle soap. Allow the gel to dry on the skin where it has been applied, and do not wash off until the morning.
When using Duac gel daily you should expect to see noticeable improvements in your acne after 2-5 weeks, with the maximum benefit being seen at weeks 8-12. Treatment with Duac should be continued for up to a maximum of 12 weeks only.
Duac should be stored in temperatures up to and not exceeding 25°C during use. Once you have received your item, treatment should be commenced straight away. Duac Once Daily Gel must be discarded 8 weeks after opening.
During the initial few weeks of treatment, users may experience an increase in reddening and/or peeling of the skin at the site of application (the area you are treating). This should reduce and improve over time.
Benzoyl Peroxide, one of two active ingredients in Duac, can increase your skins sensitivity to sunlight. As a precaution excessive or prolonged exposure to direct sunlight should be avoided whilst using Duac.
