How does Nasonex Nasal Spray work?

Mometasone furoate, the active ingredient of Nasonex nasal spray, is a synthetic corticosteroid. It helps to control the bodies inflammatory response at its site of action. When used intranasally, mometasone furoate is absorbed by the cells lining the nasal cavity/passage, reducing localized inflammation and thus helping to alleviate the symptoms associated with allergic rhinitis.

What dose should I choose?

The recommended starting dose of Nasonex (mometasone) nasal spray in accordance with the British National Formulary (BNF) is: 100mcg (Two Sprays) into each nostril once daily. Increased if necessary to 200mcg (Four Sprays) in each nostril once daily.

The recommended maintenance dose is 50mcg (One Spray) into each nostril once daily.

How should I use Nasonex Nasal Spray?

Prior to using the nasal spray, ensure the contents of the container are equally dispersed by shaking well. You may then proceed to priming the spray by actuating the pump until a steady metered dose is released. This process may require between 5-10 actuations before the nasal spray is ready and primed.

Once the nasal spray is primed, you are then able to proceed in administering desired dose, as per the labelled instructions.

Prior to each subsequent use ensure the device contents are once again well dispersed by shaking the container thoroughly. If the device has not been used for a period of 14 days or more it may require re-priming, as per previous instructions.

Please note: Nasonex nasal spray is intended for intranasal use only, and must not be administered through the mouth (orally). Take care to avoid any contact with your eyes.
